Ghacks is running on the same dedicated server for almost two years and I decided that it is time for a change and rent a faster rootserver and move all the domains and files from the old to the new server. The old server was running on an Athlon 64 3000 with 2 Gigabytes of RAM while the new server is running AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ Dual Core with 4 Gigabyte of RAM.
That is a huge improvement and things should run a lot smoother when the server transfer has finished. I hope you do recognize the change as well. The reason for this post is that you might experience small downtimes or other problems like failing database connections.
We try to keep them to a minimum but they can’t be ruled out completely. So, just in case. We are not dead, we are just moving to a new server. Have a nice day everyone.
Maybe you are wondering how much we pay for this new server. The new server actually has the price of the old one. It costs €59 – thats $88 – per month which is an incredible price if you ask me.

Who is hosting ghacks ?
Moving The Firefox Disk Cache To Another Drive
Control Servers from Mobile Phones via SSH
not 2 meg of ram!??! omg! thats worse than my 6 year old amd duron 1100 ;)
p.s. can you tell us who you rent from!?
many thankings :P
lol. Chris nice observation. Changed it to Gigabytes ;)
that was fast ;)
Chris take a look at this url http://www.hetzner.de/rootserver_en.html
very interesting… wonder how many game servers you could host on there without them becoming laggy as sh** – it only runs a console, not as if its ‘playing’ the game…
Cheers
Hmm, is this server only for ghacks, or is there something more?
I got similar server core2duo with 4GB ram for online web game, and it can handle up to ~3000 http requests per second. One user watching your blog makes 1 click per 30sec? So you have 90.000 users online on your page? :DDDD
Thinker I have about 20 Wordpress blogs running on the server and since the old and new server have the same price I think it is a good idea to move to it.
I also do have some expansion plans and might need that extra horse power.
I for one never had any problems with accessing your site. Great site. Visit it once a day.
Well those are great prices but you have to administrate it yourself right?
my linux skills aren’t enought to keep my server under control..
