Software Updates Week 48 2007

Wednesday is the day that I look back at the last seven days and write down which software has been updated in that time. This week saw some surprising but most welcome program updates. I was especially pleased with the release of Teracopy 2 Beta which is a really improved version of the old Teracopy.

That is why it made Pick of the week. Please let me know if the list is missing any noteworthy software releases so that I can add them to it. The software updates contain only freeware and open-source applications, some of them are beta versions which means that you should be extra careful in your decision to install the software.

AutoHotkey 1.0.47.05 - program macros for mouse and keyboard.

Azureus 3.0.3.5 Beta 19 - a Bittorrent client based on Java.

BitComet Build 20071114 Beta - another popular Bittorrent client.

CCleaner 2.03.532 - cleans up temporary files

CPU-Z 1.42 - provides extensive information about your CPU.

doPDF 5.3.245 - a free PDF document converter.

DVDFab HD Decrypter 4.0.1.4 Beta - Copy DVD movies to your hard drive and remove protections at the same time.

FileZilla 3.0.4 - great ftp client with an immense functionality.

FlashGot 0.7 - Firefox download manager integrator.

foobar2000 0.9.5 Beta 5 - highly configurable music player

Free Download Manager 2.5.729 - one of the best download managers available. I prefer Orbit Downloader but this would be my second choice.

GIMP 2.4.2 - the image editor that I use to create screenshots for Ghacks.

Hamachi 1.0.2.4 - simulates LAN over Internet. Very useful for example to play games that are LAN only with friends over the Internet.

Locate 3.0.7.11250 - want to experience what a fast search looks like ? Use Locate to find out, it finds files and content in files faster than anything that I have seen.

MediaCoder 0.6.0.3982 - convert media, supports batch transcodings.

MediaMonkey 3.0.1.1109 RC3 - a great music manager and player.

Notepad++ 4.6 - a Notepad replacement supporting programming languages, code highlighting and much more.

NZBPlayer 0.2.02 Beta - play movies (nzb, rar format) while downloading them from the Usenet.

Opera 9.50 Build 9665 Beta - another BETA snapshot of the upcoming Opera 9.5 browser.

Pidgin 2.3.0 - multi-protocol Instant Messenger.

Vista Codec Package 4.5.4 Beta 1 - adds support for most codecs and formats in Windows Vista.
