i bought laptop in france and its OS is windows vista family premium edition & it is in french. can i update it with English?
Please help me regarding this.

I have followed the instructions, and have download and installed KB938371 and KB935509, but KB937287 doesn’t show up no matter how many times I refresh. Any ideas anyone?

I had some strange updates right after I had uninstalled the service pack that did not appear on any of my other computers/hard drives that don’t have those 3 beta updates.

That is all I know right now for sure as I haven’t used that hard drive much since I tried the SP1 beta.

I havent recieved any update in win update since I did this. I installed the 3 updates but the service pack dont show up, so it is NOT installed.

But I just wonder if it messed up now. Have anyone had an update the last 2 weeks in win update?

There are plenty of errors, none clearly state why, nor are the error codes specific, most of which are not even known to be codes that windows update uses. With the only hits coming up on search engine pointing to fixes that dont work, or are irrelevant, since they are only suppost to be codes pertaining to a certain product, or the server update service, which doesnt do much for me. I will wait for a later build, I highly doubt this is a mal-configuration on my end since plenty of updates have installed since then, and im not gonna go breaking my system trying to get sp1 to work. Its obvious MS has some more time to spend on the installation process.

I would post the error codes, but they are nearly all the same 3 codes, and they all tell me nothing whatsoever, and reference to fixes suggested by tweakers who cant believe it when thier workaround doesnt work for everybody. The file is enormous as well.. Oh well.. I can wait for final,,, or another build :)

I found the solution for those who can’t see the Service Pack after the other updates.

To install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (works on the latest SP1 v.652 release) on non-English non-supported language edition, perform following steps before hacking the registry.

Download and install Windows Vista English MUI (Multilingual User Interface) Language Pack.
Run Registry Editor (regedit.exe).
Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Language

Backup the Language registry key by right click on it, then click on “Export�?. Save the registry file with a filename in a safe location.
In the right pane, locate the registry value named InstallLanguage and Default. Double click on them one by one, and change the value data to 0409 (represent English, the original value varies depends on the language locale of your Vista, such as 0504 in Simplified Chinese).

Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\MUI\UILanguages

Backup the UILanguages registry key by right click on it, then click on “Export�?. Save the registry file in with a filename a safe location. Do not overwrite previous saved registry file.
Expand UILanguages branch in the left pane, and you should see another registry key that has the name that represent Vista system language locale. For example, zh-CN for Simplified Chinese, zh-TW for Traditional Chinese, pt-PT for Portuguese, da-DK for Danish and etc.
Delete the language locale registry key, i.e. delete zh-CN, pt-PT and etc by right click on it, and select “Delete�?.

Above steps will hide and mark the actual system language from Microsoft. Now perform the registry hack steps to download and install Vista SP1 beta.
After installing Vista SP1, and if you want your system to revert back to its original display language setting, double click on the previously saved registry files from steps above to merge back the original values to the registry. Then go to Control Panel Regional and Language Options to set the display language back to your own language locale.
Note that after installing SP1 with procedure above and switch back to non-supported language locale, some system components that are using the language packs may fail or prompt out run-time error dialog box, such as when using Group Policy. However it shouldn’t affect general usage of Windows Vista.

why not post the section in your logs where it fails? Maybe someone can help you trouble shoot it

That is what led me to fix my issue and get it installed.

The logs tell you exactly what went wrong with a little research.

1. x86 Vista which is limited to 3GB usable RAM… x64 Vista will use upto 8GB but you need the patch for memory…x86 is limited to 3GB – that is a XP and VISTA problem unless x64.Fox says (still incorrectly shows 3.25 from task manager)guess he failed to read x86 is not 4GB enabled.PS: XP is the same way…

I do not find it strange that many can not install SP1, failure to read the instructions, failure to read the MS lit, failure to understand it must BE FULL install, nlite and other 3rd party removal screws it up, the fast, blue & black versions will not work,they are modified too much…

Well, b, I ran chkdsk 3 times, and it found nothing wrong every time. I also tried using LAN instead of wireless, and it didn’t help — same thing as always. :o(

Followed your instructions, SP1 downloaded and installed, all 4 gig of RAM correctly reported from system information. (still incorrectly shows 3.25 from task manager)

i also just realize i had plugged in a network cable at the same time… that may have made a difference not being on wireless. just in case.

I figured it out!

Run chkdsk (check disk) on your system drives. I did this and for some reason it found the entire drivers folder corrupted. It repaired it in about 1 minute and I was able to install SP1, thank god i dont have to do a re install!

ive been scouring the internet for every error message ive seen in the log and none of them make any since for what is actually happening, or they are dummy errors that dont mean anything, or they pertain to packages that have nothing to do with sp1 (such as office 2007 etc.) this is kinda puzzling…

no way,
only the service pack 1 seems to be removed.
I followed the instructions (installed all the 3 updates and rebooted after each one) but I can’t see the service pack 1 update.

I have no antivirus at all or other programs that can block it…

so I think they removed it another time…

Somehow I seriously doubt that my Adobe Master Collection could be causing any of these problems… And my AV is nod32 3.0.563.0, which works with Vista. I tried disabling all my stuff and it makes no difference, and there’s no way I am uninstalling them.

I have Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and I also have 4GB of RAM, so that isn’t the issue for sure.

I’m interested to see if the clean install works for you b.

i uninstalled my virus scan software and still no go.

why uninstall Adobe? and which Adobe, PDF, dreamweaver, photoshop? I dont think it would be failing on one of those to tell you the truth.

I’m going to try and make a full backup of my system and revert back to a clean install to see if it goes through then.
