Did you know that your system might have more user accounts than you thought it would have. Think about it for a while and write down the number of existing user accounts. Software Updates Week 44 2007
Another week has passed and it’s time again for the software updates of week 44. One of my readers asked me the last time how I kept track of all the software updates and I would like to take the time and answer his question. I do have several websites in my feedreader but also use software portals like Betanews or Softpedia to keep track of what is being updated throughout the week.
Get rid of unnecessary system startups
Every software that is starting during system startup is delaying the system boot process. You might not notice an increase if the software is small but there are applications like those from Norton for instance that can delay it by more than a minute. It is therefor always a good idea to check which softwares are starting during Windows startup and get rid of any that are not necessary.
Add Delicious Bookmarks to Firefox
Simple Delicious is a Firefox add-on which displays a users delicious bookmarks in Firefox. We all know that it can be quite useful to use a service like Delicious to store all of your bookmarks on the web to be able to access them from anywhere. Webmasters use this service as well to promote links from their own websites.
Matt Cutts confirms Google Punishment
The blogosphere was going crazy last week with rumors about the sudden Pagerank drops of several authority sites like Problogger or The Washington Post. Soon enough lots of theories made the round which ranged from being punished because of selling links to being in a blog network that would list all of its sites in the sidebar.
Remove Toolbars with Toolbar Cop
Every company that has it’s own website or software seems to advertise their toolbar that you need to install on your system. Spammers also like toolbars and most computers have many toolbars installed that are most of the time simply unnecessary. The real difficulty begins when you try and uninstall a toolbar which is not as easy as it sounds.
Social Shots a Game Screenshots Community
I have seen many niches come and go in the last year and I’m not sure if Social Shots will survive the coming year. It is basically a community portal where everyone may post game screenshots. Those screenshots can be tagged, rated and commented on by registered users.
Redesign Google Web Search with Firefox
A white background with blue links and black text is how the default Google website looks like. While this might be effective and offers a great usability it looks pretty boring but this is going to change right now. It is possible to redesign Google Web Search if you use Firefox.
Yahoo Messenger 9 Beta
The beta version of Yahoo Messenger 9 has been released yesterday and can be downloaded from the official Yahoo Messenger Beta website. The new Instant Messenger supports Windows XP and Windows Vista only and should be more or less bug free. Changing to the new version is only advised if you know what you are doing, a backup of the settings would be advised as well.
