Blog Housekeeping

I read an interesting article written by my friend Everton at this Connected Internet Blog about Blog Housekeeping. He was approached by one of his readers about the subject and Everton decided to change several aspects of his blog because they were either outdated, annoying or no asset for him or his readership.

Since I’m going to introduce a new theme in a couple of days – yeah, consider this the official announcement, hehe – I wanted to make sure that you all feel comfortable with it and that all the “bad” from this theme is not taken over into the new one while all the things that you like are.

My approach is to ask you what you like, what you miss and what you don’t like so that I can add and remove stuff from this blog. I think I should give you some examples:

Would you like polls, the top articles of (week, month, year), more links, less links, bigger articles, smaller articles, links to social bookmarking / news sites.. For the tech savy, know a wordpress plugin that I should use ? Let me know.

I can’t change everything of course. I don’t want to change the way advertisements are handled at ghacks because they tend to pay my server and traffic but I can definitely say that there will be no additional advertisement on this site.

I hope that you are at least a little bit excited about the new theme. I personally think that it looks really well and provides a better color scheme making it better to read.

I think the layout is excellent. The only thing that has always bothered me was the color scheme – for me it’s a bit dreary.

I’m a gadget nut so am especially interested in your articles about new freeware gadgets you’ve come across

full feed please or one that fixes the ‘more’ problem. Your site is blocked at work and i also prefer to read in google reader

I agree with Everton. My work block ghacks too and I use Bloglines, so it’s frustrating having to change to a proxy server every time I want to read an article, plus I can’t post comments easily from a proxy.

Full Feeds are enabled as of know. Enjoy :)

Since I’m new here, I can’t say what I miss or don’t like from before. I like the style you’ve got at present. The only annoying thing is those popup windows that appear when mousing over links, but then again, I guess they help pay for the site.
The excellent content is what keeps me coming back here. Thanks!

Thanks for the nice words Rico. If you use Firefox you can disable those links by using a Greasemonkey script called Disable Text Ads http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/3637

  8. Popups? Text Ads? I use Firefox with Add-Ons AdBlock Plus and NoScript enabled and don’t have problems with both. They hide Google AdSense ads too.

By the way: I don’t see any posting dates on your articles and think this sucks – but maybe it’s just Firefox again…

Don’t forget to review my blog!
