Download mp3 and videos from any site

Did you know that you can download mp3, video and other files from almost any website with just a little effort ? All you need is Firefox, the Firefox extension Firebug and a download manager. This knowledge is especially helpful if the tools you normally use to download videos, mp3 or flash games does not work on a website.

Firebug is actually a great web development extension for Firefox which does also list all objects that are loaded with their full url on the server. I suppose you are already seeing where this is going, huh ? You just have to take a look at the objects and filter out the largest files which are most of the time the media files. Copy the url from that file and paste it into your download manager to download the mp3, video or other media file.

Let me give you an example on how to download a mp3 right from myspace. Make sure you have the firebug extension installed.

      Visit myspace.com and click on a band’s website, e.g. http://myspace.com/theused
      Open Firebug by pressing F12
      Play a song
Check the NET tab in Firebug and search for the biggest file
Copy the location of that file (by right-clicking it) and paste it into your download manager.
Rename the file and give it the right file extension, in this case .mp3

download mp3 from myspace

This method can be used on almost every other site that offers media files. Want some examples ? Gametrailers, Myspace, Youtube, Armor Games and many more. It is not working with sites that stream content to your PC (like Internet Radio but all others should be fine.)

I was actually just trying to do this very same thing this weekend, but ran into some problems. Namely with SMIL files.

I’m trying to grab the FLV of the NBC video interview and I can’t quite figure out where the heck it’s being served from. I found a SMIL file in the network requests:

    http://video.nbcuni.com/wtvj/smil/64_30158CC3_3705D_C118D_C1000_3BA864ADF.smil

That SMIL has these FLV file references:

But any URL combo I use doesn’t see to result in the FLV, for example you would think this would work:

    http://video.nbcuni.com/nbcu/wtvj/64_30158CC3_3705D_C118D_C1000_3BA864ADF_0500.flv

But no such luck. Any ideas?

I’ve looked around online and read some things about RTMP protocol and not being able to rip FLV’s served that way. Know anything about that?

    Source page for reference: http://video.nbc6.net/player/?id=105414

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3006

This Firefox add-on will extract any video files from the web, and save them into flv formats.

    Hi folks,

I tried download some song from myspace.com, but I downloaded only 27% of one song, then my connection was closed with “unauthorised” state. It seems that Iam not able to keep connection alive, even song is still playing.

Sorry to be thick, but how do I (having copied the file) “paste it into your download manager.” My firefox download manager is just a list of previous download activity & is unresponsive when I try to paste anything into it.

    Thanks

Anyone know how to extract MP3’s from an RTMP? (streaming audio). I’m trying to get the tracks from Abercrombie’s playlist:

    http://www.abercrombie.com/anf/lifestyles/flash/af_radio/af_radio.html

    SWF =
    http://www.abercrombie.com/anf/lifestyles/flash/af_radio/af_radio.swf

I found the SWF file and decompiled it to find out the audio is streamed from a server. (rtmp://www.somethinglikethis.com/123456789)
