Yes ! It is official. Blizzard announced that their next game is indeed Starcraft 2, the successor of the best real time strategy game that I ever played. The game looks surprisingly similar to Starcraft 1 which is a good sign in my opinion. Starcraft was so perfectly balanced and had such a great gameplay that it would be a stupid move to change elements only because it looks more like a new game and not an update to the orginial computer game.
Featuring a unique single-player campaign that picks up where StarCraft: Brood War left off, StarCraft II will present a cast of new heroes and familiar faces in an edgy sci-fi story filled with adventure and intrigue. In addition, Blizzard will again offer unparalleled online play through Battle.net, the company’s world-renowned gaming service, with several enhancements and new features to make StarCraft II the ultimate competitive real-time strategy game.
The official Blizzard website of Starcraft 2 contains two movies (trailer and concept) and a first gameplay movie will be uploaded tomorrow. IGN has a gameplay movie already up on their site, unfortunately in bad quality.
There is no word about the release date but the game looks pretty advanced considering the gameplay movie from IGN.
