Getting to know You

I thought it would be really nice if I would learn a little bit more about you, my regular and casual readers. Instead of simply asking for introductions I had the idea to ask a weekly question which I would answer as well. I certainly know the demographics by taking a look at my site stats but that is not what I’m interested in.

So, the first question that I would like to ask is this one: What is your favorite movie of all times (and why). I’m always looking for interesting movies that I never heard about and it would be nice to get some recommendations from you. My favorite movie of all times is the movie Before Sunrise with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, a movie about two strangers who meet in a train and decide to spend a day and night in Vienna together. It reminds me a lot of something that I experienced, maybe that is why I love this movie so much.

The acting and setting is incredible as well. Let me ask you: What is your favorite movie of all time?

Update: Four years later and I still think that Before Sunrise is one of the best movies ever made. There have been contenders though for that spot, but none actually managed to take away that number one position from that movie.

How about War Games!!! haha http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086567/ this film rocks! *Robot Voice* ”Shall we play a game?!”

    Chris

  2. Roel says:

How about Swordfish? It’s fast, hightech, and John Travolta is in it ;)

  3. z0iid says:

ummm… that was kind of cheap way to get clicks on the embedded video ad…. but smart! you should let us know how much you make off of this stunt!

  4. Martin says:

    what embedded video ad ?

  5. Chris says:

    z0iid haha…

nice conspiracy… maybe aliens are after your brain too?

    :D

  6. Jan says:

    Movie: Natural City
    http://imdb.com/title/tt0378428/
It’s a foreign film, made in South Korea, but very polished. Plot line a little thin, but great graphics. The closest comparison is Blade Runner.

  7. Jan says:

Of course, Blade Runner would be my favorite, but this “Natural City” is my favorite scifi foreign film.

  8. Iain says:

Gladiator – great acting, great opening battle scene, great script.

  9. Joe says:

Gladiator is amazing but I would go with Groundhog Day – a movie that deals very well with that eternal question – “What If?”
I like it because it is very funny,it asks an age old sci-fi question that still fascinates me, and it is also romantic and spiritual. And I too wish I had the chance to get it right just once, one whole day.
Gumanji also comes to mind. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of that crazy movie.
Thanks for asking Martin – it’s a nice idea.

My all time favorite movie is Brazil. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088846/
The movie was made in 1985 by former Monty Python Terry Gilliam, and even has Robert De Niro in it during some short scenes. It’s a really dark, yet amusing insight in how the world might look like in the future (but then from an ’80s viewpoint). The great thing is a lot of the things in it (spread of terrorism, plastic cirgury, etc) were accurately predicted. A bit like 1984 by George Orwell, kind of satircal and has some really cool scenes involving the main character’s dreams. Ok, sorry for taking so long, I just really love the movie.

Thnx for always providing us with a great blog Martin!

  11. Thinker says:

Transporter – http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0293662/ – because of Jason Statham and his BMW 735 ;]
Before seeing that film my favourit was Requiem for a Dream :)

  12. Douch says:

Maybe 1900 by Bertolucci. Only seen it once. It’s six hours long, so normally you go to the cinema two days

  13. RG says:

The Omen (original 70′s trilogy) and a more recent one The Constant Gardener. Very different movies but both excellent IMO.

  14. Kevin says:

I only watched it for the first time about 2 weeks ago, but I have fallen in love with “Forrest Gump”!

    http://imdb.com/title/tt0109830/

It’s a very popular American film which features a slow, but very caring man, who achieves fame and glory throughout historic American events of the 1950′s – 1980′s.

  15. kai says:

dont think i have a fave but i m gonna go with the breakfast club if i had to choose…it’s a movie i have always loved

  16. Streaker says:

    High Plains Drifter-
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068699/

Clint Eastwood as a mysterious “anti-hero” who exacts righteous vengence on an evil town.

  17. Steve J says:

The Day The Earth Stood Still…”Klaatu barada nikto”
Great sci-fi movie from 1951 with a message thats still relevant today

  18. Martin says:

Wow what a great feedback from everyone. I was so unsure if I should post something like this at all but it seems it was a good move ;)

    Keep it coming please.

  19. hansds says:

I dont like the romantic movies like before sunrise and before sunset, give me just a cinefobic movie like: Lola Rennt, best movie ever seen.

  20. gnome says:

Favorite film, huh? Well, Martin, even though I definitely have a problem with coming up just with one, I’ll have to say “Life of Brian”. It just popped up and is amazingly funny…

  21. Al says:

    The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
    Followed closely by:
    The Motorcycle Diaries (2004)

  22. Will says:

“Fight Club” or any movie that is… how to say.. mental. Like The Buttefly Effect.

  23. Rico says:

Most favorite movie of all time? Tough call as there are so many. One movie that I never tire of watching on DVD or even if it comes up on TV is The Good the Bad and the Ugly.
The interplay between the three stars of the movie, Eastwood, Wallach and Van Cleef is superb and a joy to watch. The soundtrack by Morricone helps to make this movie an outstanding classic.

Man With No Name: You see, in this world there’s two kinds of people, my friend: Those with loaded guns and those who dig. You dig.

  24. Gord W. says:

You got to watch “Serentiy” based on the t.v. series “Firefly”
You don’t have to see the t.v. series but it is such an awesome show, it makes the movie that much better.

  25. Gord W. says:

Sorry, that was “Serenity” not “Serentiy”
    oops…teehee.

  26. Gord W. says:

Sorry, that was “Serenity” not “Serentiy”
    oops…teehee.
Also, the reason I loved it was because it has great character base and a fast moving story and very nice graphics.
Just go and rent the t.v series, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

  27. JD says:

Forrest Gump, that has to be one of the best films to come from America in decades.

  28. p5chin says:

    Forrest Gump!!!!! – Fantastic movie!!
    Before sunrise!!
    Before sunset!!
    Shawshank redemption
spring, summer, autumn, winter & spring – south korean movie …like it for it photography and the way in which nature has been captured in camera!
