Orbit Downloader

I never suggested a download manager before at ghacks, so here it comes, a free fast download manager that is working with all major browsers and supporting major protocols such as http, https, ftp, mms and rtsp. I have been testing Orbit Downloader in Firefox and Internet Explorer and decided to use it as my main download manager. It monitors downloads automatically and starts the download immediately. If you like you can configure Orbit Downloader to monitor the clipboard as well and catch flash and streaming media files.

It adds a small icon to most video download portals in Firefox that lets you download the video that is currently played. Internet Explorer users have to hover over the video to see a menu that lets them download the video. This feature is site independent which means that it should work on new sites that offer flash and streaming media files. That is not the main purpose of the download manager of course.

As I said earlier it supports most protocols and works with many download sites such as rapidshare (queue rapidshare premium downloads) and megaupload as well. You can add proxies and a virus scanner to Orbit downloader and add username and passwords for password protected sites. Orbit downloader displays a small icon that is always on top that can be used for drag and drop operations. Just drag and drop download links into the icon and the downloads will start automatically. The feature can be disabled if you do not like it.

Orbit Downloader does not use many system ressources and integrates perfectly with Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Sounds excellent. I’m curious though about how it compares to the other Download managers already out there like DAP, Free Download Manager, GetRight etc.

How well does this work with Rapidshare regaridng the Captcha code that needs to be entered? If not well, what are people now using? I used to use RapGet but it doesn’t seem to work anymore as Rapidshare keeps changing each week.

I’ve used DAP, Free Download Manager and GetRight before. Dap is fine, FDM is real slow compared to Orbit and GetRight as well as Flashget produced warnings from my anti-spyware / malware / virus protection programs.

However NOTHING has ever come close to orbit for speed! It’s REAL fast! I am totally / completely satisfied and impressed by orbit!
