Link your Images to Google Earth

Taking pictures while you are on holiday is one thing and probably done by anyone these days thanks to the rise of smartphones with better cameras as well as digital cameras. These images are usually saved to a computer hard drive from time to time to make room for additional photos.

Some users may even go as far and upload them to online services such as Flickr or a social networking site such as Facebook.

If you want to stick out of the crowd, you may consider linking your photos using Google Earth and geolocation. Linking pictures with geolocation information can be interesting during photo shows for instance, when family or friends come together to look at photos that someone has taken recently.

Instead of just seeing the photos, it is now also possible to directly show the viewers on Google Earth where those photos have been taken.

Only a few cameras supported geolocation when the article was written, while many support it now even though it may need to be enabled first before you can make use of it.

Even if your camera does not support it, you can still use Panorado Flyer as it provides you with the means to edit geolocation data manually for each photo that you load into the application. This is done by either looking up the location information on Google Earth or using the image's EXIF information if they include location-based information.

I think that this is an excellent way to spice up those boring "we are back from holidays, take a look at the 1000 pictures that we have taken" kind of events. This tool would be even nicer if it would be possible to create automatic slideshows showing the images and Google Earth locations and burn those information on a DVD to view it on TV directly.

The application is still free to use and compatible with all recent versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system.

I haven’t tried Panorado yet, but Picasa also lets you geotag your images now
