This trick is not working anymore and has therefor been removed from the server.
The best way to install Windows Media Player 11 is to download it from an official download parter such as Softpedia and install it that way.
I prefer to use alternatives like the excellent SMPlayer which can play most formats without any difficulties.

What would you need WMP 11 for? I haven’t used it in years.
Well good question. I’m not using it as well but some might want it.
I personally like Media Monkey.
Compatible with iPod, very easy to navigate and not a memory clogger like Media Player (any version) or iTunes.
I can’t remember where I saw it now, but there’s a .reg file you can download that changes the registry and makes WGA think windows is valid. It’s useful since it’ll work with WMP11 and anything else you can download from microsoft that does a wga check.
And it’s alot simpler than unpacking the installers and messing with them
Yup… as tash says. the magic .reg file IS the way to go. I use it ALL the time. Best and easiest way to get around WGA.
What is this magic .reg file hack? It sounds easier than this method. Martin, couldn’t you maybe write an article on it in fact?

i got the reg file, i couldnt find it in my computer at first so i was gonna try this method, but then i remember i downloaded it a while ago so i tried it again and it worked! so download this reg file, open it, then open ur media player and run the update, and it will download the upgrade and u just gotta install it and agree and thats it :D have fun

I extracted those files, run Wmfdist11.exe, restarted the computer and then run Wmp11.exe but during the installation an error occured: “Failed to install catalog files.” :( What’s the problem?
try using the .reg file i uploaded, idk if its still up there but it should be, if not, can any of u guys that downloaded it upload it again? welll anyyways, try using that reg file, with that, it will still take you to the validation screen, but it will think your copy of windows is valid, so you dont got to worry about it and just keep clicking :D peace

Here’s my question: will the registry patch also tell the service pack installer that my copy of windows is ok?
im guessing it should, so u probably just have to go to windows update after you use the reg file, so that the website itself will think your using a genuine copy, and then try to see if you can install it…. i dont really know, but give it a try…. i heard that to install SP2 u dont even need a genuine copy… again, i just heard lol

im having problems getting the WM11 can someone help mme? i have a copy of windows and i saw somewhere where you can put in the RUN menu codes to make your windows look original but now i cant find it. Does anyone have any ideas? I am running the American version of windows

ok i got the WMP11 finally loaded and working and playing music but i live in germany and i cant play my american DVDs on my DVD player or on the WMP does anyone have any advise on wha to do?

I doubled click on the Regfile AKA -By Fresh.
It did its stuff and my Windows ended up being Genuine. But after i restarted my computer and tried to load up windows again, something came up saying
-Error a program is blocking your vertification code to be checked [something like that].
therefore I wasnt able top start windows up. It just stays on te desktop with no icons etc.
At the moment im using another hardrive to access windows and therefore access my stuff on the other hard drive.
Have you guys experienced this problem??
And do you know how to remove the By Fresh register program???
