They even did so much to get online stores/brick and mortar store to shut down completely or stop selling PSP to regions where it was not released yet (aka importing). They take this very seriously, and they are also very smart. To date you can play backup games on Xbox 360s and Wii's (not to mention all of the previous generations), however this is not so with the PS3. As far as including Linux support, I think they did it because they could and there was rabid support among a small group of people for the Linux toolkit on the PS2 when it was released. PS/PS1 was really easily hacked and the PS2 was equally open to such hacks. Now with Linux running on the PS3 so easily out of the box, I wouldn't be surprised to see PS3 games subject to piracy before February.
