Windows Media Player 11 for XP has been released and Microsoft decided to add a WGA check to the installation routine. Once you double-click the executable that you downloaded the tool asks for a WGA check and will not continue the installation until it was checked whether Microsoft thinks your Windows installation is legit or not. We heard about users that had problems with those WGA checks and could not install software that performed checks although they had a legit system.

ZEESHAN SOHAIL, Have You tried to Uninstall Media Player 10, then Install 11?
Hey guys this has worked many times for me… on friends and familys computers…
find windows media player file in program file. and then rename the file legitLibM.dll
to legitlib.dll and then delete the file and go through the validation progress again. and when u click OK or Exit (or whatever button comes up after it says not a valide…)
it should be installed. and then u can custom or esxpress install… u know the rest.
Great work The Master. Short sweet and effective..
I like!
haee,,,guys ,,,i hv wnp11 set up ,,but i m not able to install in my laptop ,,,,when i install it ,,,it requires original window,,,how can i install wnp11 plzzz,,,tell me ,,,plz plz plz
Step 1: download media player installer from Microsoft web site.
Step 2: Use WinRAR to extract installer (Right click on wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe, “extract here”)
Step 3: Double-click wmp11.exe (No WPA required)
Yeah, it’s really, REALLY complicated ;)
MS Website:

WinRAR:

Ok so you have to validate anyway with the above method (as I found out). That DLL trick listed above works though. That DLL from any legitimate install of WM11, re-named and place in that folder (rename the DLL in there) and it will work!
foo
Luke’s idea works perfectly. Thanks!
hey guys After LegitLibM.dll is found, right click and rename it to legitlib.dll. ITs WORK!! Thanks….
Yeah so I don’t have a LegitLibM.dll file to change the name of, nor do I have Service Pack 2, which I keep being prompted for when I try to download the components of WMP11 seperately. So what do I do now?
extract wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe, open setup_wmp.exe. now without closing it, search and open wmp11.exe.now goto //program files/windows media player. There will be a file named LegitLibM.dll….rename it with legitlib.dll…
although largely irrelevent, a few of you have been asking abot the amazing IE7, without WGA. Go to yahoo.com and get thier version. it has no wga check. u will get yahoo stuff, though (easily removed from control panel) but i like yahoo.
But the best way, guys: Get a REAL copy of XP. or better yet, vista. save all the hassle.
anyway… i did wat aditya said, but got the message that ZEESHAN SOHAIL got. but then, i tried it again except after i ran the exe i searched for, i did not close the other window. i took the risk of clicking on validate, and then after a delay it skipped the whole validation process and installed smoothly.

SO GUYS, JUSTTO WHAT aditya SAID, DONT CLOSE THE WINDOW EVEN AFTER YOU RAN WMP11.EXE AND RENAMED LEGITLIB… JUST CLICK VALIDATE! Trust me, it works.
im trying to figure out this . i did a backup of all my music to re format my P.C. When i put it all back in , almost 1/2 of it wont play , it says i need licencing ? how can i fix that , apart from getting all the music again?
Cnnr_Dhrty@yahoo.com
frad, windows media player automatically downloads usage rights about your music files.
This option is enabled by default, and most people do not see it when they install WMP, but the configuration for that is asked for in the setup program. in WMP, press alt + T (tools menu), then press letter O (Options). Click on the privacy tab, and uncheck “aquire licenses automatically for protected content”.
If you dont have WMP, get it. Dont listen to anyone who says to get something else.
hello.first of all i want to thank u for all the great advices … but … i tried to do exactly what u wrote here … and after i succesfully install wmp11.exe an error ruines my day … “This application has failed to start beacause WMDRMSDK.DLL was not found.Re-installing the application may fix this problem.” … and it`s the third time i re-install it.help plz! :D
The Master’s method worked great for me, thanks
Nice work, The Master, it worked perfectly! Many thanks.
thnx master… ur method worked smoothly….
First of all, thanx to all the guys that get into trouble of answering all our questions.
Mine is a simple one:
After finishing with the install of the non-checkable exe file, when I run WMP it gets an error message:
“The file wmplayer.exe has a version number of 11.0.5721.5145 where 9.0.0.3250 was expected. WMP is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.
Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site?”
Now the player doesnt run no matter if i uninstall the v.11 setup. Any ideas??
thanx
i am also having this same problem, iskander. if anyone can help it would help alot thx.
Dave, I managed to make it work.
1. Re-unzip the WMP11 zip
2. Extract all files in a NEW folder in Program Files
3. Double click the wmfdist11 file first
4. run the wmp11 file, choose a new shortcut of this installation in a new location
5. Restart pc
6. Run the new shortcut.
The player seems to play smoothly
:)
Nikhil’s idea works…
Thanks a ton Master ur idea works like a charm
i have de same problem how to solve daT?…….
i cant open windows media player 11 ……….
Luke`s method works perfect
If you are getting an error message something like:
“The file wmplayer.exe has a version number of 11.0.5721.5145 where 9.0.0.3250 was expected. WMP is not installed properly and must be reinstalled.
Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site?”
The solution is:
1. Unzip the installation file wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe anywhere (eg desktop)
2. Run wmfdist11
3. Run wmp11
4. Open windows media player 11!! TA DA!
after download the wmp setup app,i still have to validate the software.
how to avoid the validation?somebody help me please!
tnx a lot m8
