You might want to give credit to where you found this:

Martin says, September 16th, 2006

I did not found it there, thanks..

Lorissa says, September 16th, 2006

@ SlasSim - Why would you think this was taken from the site you mention? It would appear to have been taken from the “Gopher”.

However, it should be pointed out that it isn’t necessary to click on “pics” or “video” to obtain the Friend ID. Doing so, by the way, requires that you be logged in and that might not be desired.

Simply put your cursor over the word “pics” or “video” and look at the command line (url) at the (almost) bottom of the page. The Friend ID is contained within. Using “pics” is better as the Friend ID is displayed at the end of the line, whereas it’s buried in the middle when using “video”

The name of the additional .dll file needed is “Bass” and users will see how to download it at the Gopher site.

You’re doing such a great job with this site Martin. 5-stars!

Martin says, September 16th, 2006

Thanks for the compliments Lorissa. I actually visited digg.com and saw the story there and read the comments on that site only. I did not visit tech-recipes.

Someone in the comments mentioned the tool and I searched for it in google. I thought the tech recipes site had just another url hack.

Lorissa you are right with the friend id but you can see it also by clicking on the link without being logged in. This way you can copy the id instead of remembering it. No big deal I know.

Lorissa says, September 16th, 2006

Hmmm, clciking on the link using either FireFox or IE requires me to login before I can access the “pics” or “videos” page.

Also, there is no need to remember the Friend ID because whether you use the online or download version, the “Gopher” resides on top and therefore you can place your cursor over “pics” or “videos” to display the ID and at the same time simply type in the ID in Gopher.

By the way, it should also be pointed out that the online vs. download versions work a little differently.

Cheers.

Martin says, September 16th, 2006

Lorissa that is right of course but you see the url in the address bar and that’s where the friend id is. It is basically the same principle with hovering over the url.

But you are right, if gopher is residing on top it is as easy to type the id in..

Lorissa says, September 16th, 2006

Well, after all that (the hype), it seems neither the downloaded or online version actually work for me at all. Oh, the files are downloaded without difficulty, but the quality of the sound is very bad. Tons of stops and starts. Maybe I’m doing something wrong or perhaps this program just won’t run on my system. Or, maybe myspace has already done something to prevent this software from working. Anybody else downloaded a music file with this program today and actually listened to it?

Try this for me, you should like the song either way. Please download “Believe” for the following site (Friend ID = 80554908):

Thanks.

Please disregard previous post. I was trying to play all those files using BSPlayer (which has been the best player for me), but I switched to VLC and the songs play prefectly. So, it must be a timing issue with BSPlayer or my system?

However, if this has happened to me, it might also happen to others.

Martin says, September 16th, 2006

Lorissa they played fine for me in winamp, did not notice what you said, must be bsplayer related then.

But good advice for people with similar problems..

Lorissa says, September 16th, 2006

Thanks Martin. Yes, it has to be BSplayer, because in addition to VLC, I’ve now tried winamp and wmp and all work fine with these files.

As a side note, I thought you didn’t think winamp was worthy of adding into your recent poll on “players” when I suggested it, but you’re using it yourself? :)

Martin says, September 16th, 2006

Lorissa the poll was about video players ;)

Lorissa says, September 17th, 2006

Winamp plays videos Martin. ;)

Martin says, September 17th, 2006

I know but I always consider it a mp3 player. Its visa versa with bsplayer, I consider it a video player and not a mp3 player ;)

i think tom patched this because i tried this prog on a german song its gummibear by gummibar, its german but its a cool tune, i actually had to record it with my goldwave wav editor like thru my sound card on stereo mix and the song stopped then it started back up where it left off but i was able to seamlessly edit it back so i now have that on my ipod

I tried to download a song from here;

http://www.myspace.com/stephenbelangersmusic

But it doesn’t seem to work… :(

I’d really like to get it to download properly though, because the songs are really cool but nobody seems to know when the CD will be out and he won’t respond to my messages.

I tried using Goldwave to record it, but my internet is slow, so the stream pauses all the time and screws up the recording and I’m not really very good at editing stuff.
