The new beta of Firefox 2 has finally been released to the public today. There have been numerous delays to the release of this new beta version with lots of rumors surrounding it. Well, no need to worry anymore, it is there, go grab it if you want to take a sneak peak on what has changed since the last beta. I had some stability problems with the last firefox 2 beta version and hope that those have been fixed by the developers.
This firefox 2 beta release introduces many new features to firefox including the following (I picked the most interesting ones from the list):
- Built-in phishing protection – Phishing is a big problem on the internet and everything that is able to stop this is welcome. Phishing Protection is turned on by default, and works by checking sites against either a local or online list of known phishing sites. This is not fully implemented yet.
- Enhanced search capabilities: Search term suggestions will now appear as users type in the integrated search box when using the Google, Yahoo! or Answers.com search engines.
- Resuming your browsing session: The Session Restore feature restores windows, tabs, text typed in forms, and in-progress downloads from the last user session.
- Previewing and subscribing to Web feeds: Users can decide how to handle Web feeds.
- Inline spell checking: Finally a spell checker built into firefox.
The new Firefox 2 Beta 2 is available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
