If you are using Firefox on more than one computer you may want to take a look at the password exporter extension. You can use it to export the password database of Firefox on one device to import it in another so that you can use all saved user accounts on all systems that you use Firefox on.

Password exporter helps you in this task. The extension adds a new tab to the password manager. It adds the option to export saved passwords to a CVS file and import saved passwords from a CSV text file. Last but not least it adds the option to import and export never saved passwords as well.

One final note: You can also encrypt the passwords before they are saved which is in my opinion a good idea as they can be read by anyone otherwise who has access to the file.

Update: The extension has not been updated for two years, but still seems to be compatible with the latest version of the Firefox web browser. While it is still working fine to import and export passwords from Firefox's built-in password manager.

Firefox users do have other options though. Mozilla has for instance integrated Firefox Sync into the web browser which can be used to synchronize data with the cloud so that passwords are available on all connected versions of the browser.

Firefox Sync requires the creation of a Mozilla account that needs to be created before the data can be synchronized.

Another option are external tools like MozBackup, which can backup Firefox profiles and settings to the local PC. While not as comfortable when it comes to syncing to other devices, they offer a versatile approach that currently provides more options than Firefox Sync offers. They can obviously be used to backup and restore passwords, but also other data.

Third party password managers can assist you as well. A popular solution is Last Pass, a password manager for the browser that saves all passwords online so that you can access them on any device that you run the password manager on.

Great find, always wanted this, otherwise I have had to zip and back up my whole settings folder to get to a new machine.

    Cheers
