You find lots of tutorials on the web that deal with cracking WEP (wired equivalent privacy) using tools that are only available if you are using a *nix distribution. This could be quite a challenge for most windows users. A tutorial at the taz forum now finally takes a look at and explains how to crack WEP using windows xp.
The tutorials tries to make it right for everyone, explaining everything in great detail which is great for beginners. You might want to skip some paragraphs if you already know the basics. The author uses aircrack -ng and explains the usage of this tool in great lenght. If you are curious take a look, you won´t find an easier introduction to WEP cracking. There will be a video tutorial out soon as well which visualizes everything.

There exists better tools than aircrack. It can handle only the old wep. There are some new and better tools avaiable for win vista plattforms.

ok guys i know its not windows but…
i use linux to be more accurate i use backtack 3
this is the end product of over 300 but in tools
and most of them have a GUI interface that
makes it easy even for noobs my first day
running the live cd i cracked my roommates AP
and get this 8 min i only needed 20000 ivs and
the wep key was 128 bit it can do the same for
wpa in around the same time
if anyone has any questions youngzuse@live.ca i wont say i am a pro but i do know how to crack wep and or wpa in under 10 min almost everytime i go after a network lol might be able to help good luck ps…. backtrack will be the last wireless tool u ever download

For you mac users; you are really lucky, KisMac is so easy to use it is scarry.
Wish someone would port this for *nix. It shouldnt be too hard. But then again i cant do it.

hey all i am a pro with backtrack 3 and the commmands NOW but thats not for everyone
its funny i found a new set of auto hacks you just put the –bssid essid and the channel and it dose the rest not the first tool that dose this is called airoscript.sh and the second is skynet.sh
now both script programs that work great for backtrack linus users

Matt – hey, I tried backtrack 3 and I can’t get it to start. I burned the CD ok, but after I boot I get a message that says “Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation.” I verified the checksum after I downloaded and it was ok. What’s up? I admit to being a linux newbie, but I don’t even see a place to change any settings. Do I have to edit the backtrack files before I burn them to CD? Thx.

i think if mac is so easy to get wep i may need to start to learn that os , i started on 95 and up and i dont think am able to learn a none gui sys. maybe if i knew dos and understand a batch file i might be able to even run linux .

So, i’ve hacked my neighbors internet about 2 months ago, but yesterday they changed their WEP code, and everytime i use a tool to get the WEP the old WEP comes up and not the new one they got, is there any tools i can use to get the new WEP?

hey ritchie just go and download the latest copy of backtrack 3 and use spoonwep to get your neighbors wep backtrack is whats called a live cd meaning that you put the cd in the cd drive and restart your computer and the whole operating system just loads without installing anything and runn’s off your ram so if you screw it up wile playing around with it it will have no way of affecting your native os..now if you wanna be a hacker..or cracker you will never get there running windows its not like the movies its just not made for it

hey Ritchie ..backtrack 3 is linux its a slax distro .but that dose not matter heres a direct link to the download page i suggest that you download the 695mb iso so is all you have to do is burn the iso to the dvd and then restart your computer and it loads the dvd then just use spoon wep to get the wep key or spoonwpa for the wpa key
but you will need a massive dictionary to guess the wpa key good luck happy new years ;)

I have an Atheros AR5009 which is not on the list. Will it work? How about my USB adapter with the powerful antenna and amplifier? Is there any hope of using it ever with cracking software? I have an RAlink 2500 with a raylink chip
if your wifi adapter is usb, you might want to run linux backtrack3 on windows using vmware and download the vmware image of bactrack3. this way you wouldn’t have to burn any iso to a cd, and restart your pc everytime you crack weps. spoonwep does work but if you know how to do packet injections, aircrack-ptw and airodump-ng method still is faster.

matt, how is the virtual box going to see the wireless in the virtual machine? the virtual machine will just see any nonusb adapter as a wired nic in the guest os.

Rinning linux using VMware or equivalent type will not work! This is due to the way windows registers your network adapters!

Hi,I finally got a bootable disk, for windows runs great, with instructions, just that its only for 3945 wireless card runs and collects pakets but wont complete as i dont have the right wireless card

you just need a decent ammount of ram or everything is in slow moo haha i am actually typing this in vmware workstation 6 and and using backtrack 4 so long and short it works

Gustavo yes commview wifi works for wep but it takes me 5 min with linux ..we both know commview takes a verylong time and dose not work all the time and wep is old now learn to crack wpa-psk and plus with commview wifi you cannot capture a four way handshake so wpa is not going to happen

Matt, I’m an avid BT3 user and I’m having more of an issue with getting it to work on certain platforms. I have a toughbook that refuses to cooperate with kismet or airmon-ng have you ever had any issues with this? It spouts off this error:

the issue is that your wireless card dose not support injection and thats a very common issue with intel based chipsets s your not alone in that aspect ..
and for the wireless card if you wanna be a wireless hacker you are gonna need the right wireless card and with the right chipset and with the insane power well all love and that wireless card is called the Realtek 8187
it has 400mw of power thats almosthalf a watt now thats a lot and it works so good you just plug it in to your computer when backtrack is all loaded up and it just works now drivers needed
