Send a Fax to unsubscribe from paypals newsletter

I thought this was kind of a joke when I heard about this story a few minutes ago. We read about Will who is recieving a newsletter from paypal although he never dealt with them whatsoever. He looks for a way to unsubscribe and finds no other than to log into his account (which he does not have of course.)

He then contacts paypal customer support and they tell him to fax a valid photo id, a bank statement, a credit card statement and proof of address (phone or utility bill). All for a unsubscription of a newsletter ? Did someone else have problems with paypal or other companies like that ? This sounds unbelievable to me..

I unfortunately created an account and went through the painful process of ‘unsubscribing’ and i can tell you even if you manage to sign in with the correct username / password and find the page which changes? the settings to not recieve the newletter, it still does not work the junk “newletters” still keep coming and there is not a single contact email listed on paypal to complain to, funny how it is very one sided communication isnt it
