The football worldcup is starting today and it surely is going to be the biggest sports event of this year. We all know that some companies are going to stream the worldcup live on the internet for their countrymen. If you are not that tech savy and still want to view the cup online your best bet is to download a software called pplive. I suggest the stable version but experienced users could use the beta version as well.
Install pplive on your system, make sure you chose english as your language. The options should appear at first start and you can change some settings like ports, connections and the like. Click ok or hit enter to leave the options. Select Play from the menu and you see a channel list on the left, probably lots of garbage if you don´t have the appropriate fonts installed on your system. But this does not matter.
The important channels are the following:
CCTV1, CCTV5 and probably Shanghai Sports
All three seem to be showing all games of the football worldcup live. Take a look at the boxtobox website for a complete schedule of the games and which station is broadcasting it.
I suggest you take a look at this tool if you can´t watch a game in tv.
Update:
Download the latest Tvuplayer version from Rapidshare and select the channel ESPN2, they show the games live and it´s working. Downloads also available from Badango and Rapidsharing.

If TVUplayer does not connect you have the option to download either TVants or Sopcast and watch the worldcup or other sport events from those programs. (CCTV 5 is the channel, unfortunatly with chinese commentary)

If you haven’t figured out yet, go with ESPN2 (Low) unless you have a T1 or faster connection.
I’m such a retard. I was watching ESPN2 and bitching about how it breaks up every minute or so. So “ESPN2 (low) is the way to go. The quality is not as good as ESPN2 but who cares?

For some reason, I could not download that tuv.rar file. After I hit FREE button, it pop up another windows that said the file had been download several hundred times. Is there any other way to have it download to my comp? Thanks!
it does have full screen. just double click on the video as it’s playing
40. Khoa the website is showing a counter which slowly counts to zero. When it reaches 0 you see a image verification and a download link next to it. Just wait and it comes to you ;)

to those of u in the US, try getting univision TV channel. they provide free terrestrial signals and they are broadcasting all the games live. i just finished watching the inaugaural game using a TV tuner card on my PC. i plan to watch the remaining games that way too. best of luck!

hi, have downloaded pplive, when i select any channel i get the preview image and details, it shows some small kb of downloading but no buffering and nothing seems to happen, have tried many channels. any tips
steve I recieved the best results with tuvplayer, just download, install, select ESPN2 for example and you´re ready to go.
It streams CCTV5 as well, so if ESPN2 is not showing a match cctv5 will. (with chinese commentary)

Thanks for the info when I try to download the player it comes up with the message that the download was invalid. The reasons it gives are :
Download-session expired. Direct-links last a few minutes for free users and a few days for premium-users.
You requested this download-session from a different IP than yours. If you use AOL, try a different browser.

I can’t believe it. TUVplayer works INCREDIBLY WELL!@!! OMG OMG OMG. I have been so stressed out for the last week because I haven’t been able to find any way of watching the world cup, and my only option was to download via .torrent, but it would be like a day late etc etc. You have NO idea how happy I am at the moment!! Streams perfectly….looks like it uses the VLC code? Why is this programe not promoted more??!

Guys I managed to sort out the download in the end but I bit the bullet and got the premium membership for a month on the website. After that no trouble in downloading.
Only one problem now the buffering goes up to about 90% on ESPN 2 and then comes all the way back down again resulting in break up of the channel.
Just a quick question on the channel list I can actually get ABC/ESPN2 (low) to work but is showing ABC at the moment. Will it change accross to ESPN 2 eventually when the world cup matches start ?
