Save Pandora MP3 Streams with Pandoras Jar

I wrote an article on saving pandora streams with 3tunes a few days ago and it seems that a few people do have difficulties making the application work. One user commented on the open source program Pandoras Jar which worked for him quite well and I decided to test the tool for myself and write a little review after doing so.

Pandoras Jar is written in java and therefor requires the java runtime environment and firefox. Download Pandoras Jar from the link given above and unzip it into a directory of your choice. Run pandora.jar, if a little window (Pandoras Jar) appears Java is working fine and you are ready to fire up firefox and enter localhost in the address bar and hit enter.

The application connects to the pandora website and begins playing your radio stations immediatly. Please note that you need an account with pandora.com to listen to unlimited songs. The mp3s are saved in the pandoras jar folder.

So, if the 3tunes application did not work for you try pandoras jar and check if this one is. Here is a short feature list of the tool:

save mp3 artist/album/song.mp3
ID3 tagging artis/album/song/track/year/genre
fetches artist bio – via last.fm
fetched last.fm [track stat]
fetched last.fm [similar songs]
fetches last.fm [top fans]
fetches and saves album art – via last.fm
tags ID3 cover art – (embeds album image in MP3, viewable in ITUNES / IPOD)
add track to your last.fm account [recent tracks]
organizes mp3’s by station

I´am not a java pro, maybe try your lick in the hak5 forum and see if they can help you. You have the JRE installed ?

I’m getting “The connection was refused when attempting to contact localhost:8085.”

I got the “insall was successful” type message and the page loaded the first time, but with the player and most other elements missing. I’ve checked my movie value, as listed above, I’ve reinstalled my JRE and Pandora’s Jar, still no luck.

Anyone else getting this error; anyone fixed it?

    Thx,

    D

Hey guys, I found this page via google search. After following some of the posted links, I came accross this unofficial host site:

    http://ww2.wildandbad.com:8181/article/pandoras-jar

and thought it would help. It has the latest versions (7.3.1 as of this comment) and instructions.

    good luck!

I’ve noticed it often doesn’t put the right artist/title with the right file, as in it’ll name a file with the information of the current song playing, but the file turns out to be something that already played or is going to play later. Anyone have any advice?

Hey anyone with the “could not faind the main class” error, just download the most recent version of Java and you should be good to go!!!

  1. [...] So Pandora’s pretty swell for discovering new music, but thanks to Lifehacker (and some other hackers), now we can do a little more with it. Here are two standalone players, and here are a few howtos on ripping the music to your hard drive. [...]
