Howto watch ABC TV Streams outside the USA

ABC started their streaming service on their website today. Users from the USA are able to watch episodes of Lost, Desperate Houswives, Alias and others right from the website. Unfortunatly they check your IPs origin and decline access if the whois turns out to be from outside the USA. But as always, there is a way around this restriction.

This is slighty complex but you should get used to the procedure. All you need is a http proxy that is hosted inside the USA and does not spill your IP address. To achieve this you need a application that checks proxy servers for those variables. I recommend Charon for this task but you could use other tools as well.

Download Charon from the website mentioned, you don´t need to install it at all, just extract the contents to a directory of your choice.

Fire it up, you have no proxy list yet so you could use google to find some lists or let charon do that for you. Simply select Check Proxies and then Scan Search Engines for new Proxies. Charon will find some proxies that are then displayed in the table. Those are unverified, now select Check Proxies and Check Anonymity of all Proxies. This might take some time. If you only recieve bad and timeouts you have to change one option in charon.

Select Connect Options and chose Use External Judge(s).

Let it test the proxies. If you have enough good ones or a finished test sort the proxies by the Country tab. Only USA proxies are working so we need one of those. The Anonymity tab should state YES. If both are correct right click the line and select Copy to clipboard and Copy selected IP:Port.

Open your browser and paste the proxy address into its proxy settings. For firefox you select Tools >> Options >> Connection Settings >> Manual Proxy Configuration and add the proxy and port there. Close the options and visit the abc streaming site. If you see a Launch button you are ready to enjoy the tv shows. If not try another proxy from the list.

I checked the service with this proxy and it worked flawlessly: 192.104.67.250 port:8080

Enjoy the shows.

hehe…why would anyone inside OR outside the US want to watch ABC?

    • T says:

I used to live in Detroit, now I live a mile across the river in Windsor, Canada. I miss my US tv…… you can’t watch abc, nbc, fox or cbs on the internet in Canada. And the local stations only offer clips of the shows aired on these networks. So I personally wish to view USA networks on my laptop in Canada

  2. Razman says:

    Holy!

All I did, was type into google “Free Proxy” and pages and pages of search returns containing free proxies, were returned.
I hit the first search result, and it listed tons of proxies by ip, when they were last tested and country of origin.
I chose a US proxy, quickly enterered it into my Internet Explorer/Firerox Connection settings, and hit http://ipchicken.com it didn’t show my ip, I hit abc’s site next and it worked no problems.

  3. yair says:

    ?
i am looking for a video overlay grabber
is there a way to capture the stream
    and then convert

  4. roebert says:

thx for the howto – good thing to know

  5. Norman says:

Use http://www.whatismyproxy.com/ instead of ipchicken. The chicken didn’t show that I was forced to use a transparent proxy – but whatismyproxy clearly shows that I am. Maybe ABC don’t check the Fowarded-For header, which is great.

  6. Q8 says:

is There a mac app also “Charon”

  7. Sander says:

Thanks for this excellent guide! Works great!!

  8. JB says:

All this trouble to watch a shitty quality stream?

No, thanks. P2P is the way to go.

  9. Ju says:

For all of those that hate ABC, I bet this would work for Cartoon Network’s friday night fix too…

  10. me says:

actually a proxy is needed only when initially connecting to abc’s “live streams” page.

you can then deactivite the proxy and watch the shows !

  11. yee wei says:

OMG………it works !!!!!!!!!! Im from malaysia. This is COOL !!! Good Job
    martin !!!

  12. Martin says:

Yes it´s true. You can deactivate the proxy when viewing the show and you passed the ip check. You could also scan for a proxy that is not that crowded with users :)

  13. Pleas help says:

Don’t work. After i hit the launch button this message comes in???
    Invalid domain
episodes are temporarily unavailable. please try again at another time

    so what´s wrong

  14. Martin says:

They probably banned the ip of the proxy that I posted. Try scanning for your own and you will find one that is working.

  15. matt says:

I’m clicking on Check Proxies and then Scan Search Engines for new Proxies and it will begin a search but no proxies are found. Help!?!?!

  16. Jarzi says:

    I´m having samekind of trouble´s…
    Frist the “Invalid domain” message
And then thish Charon prog ain´t working
    What should I do??

  17. Carlos says:

    Thanks it worked

  18. nonames says:

i can get lost couple hours after its aired in usa..
even tho i live in europe.. :D

  19. john says:

entered proxy into internet connections ok. i went to go to the abc streams
but it wouldnt let me go to any website at all, what do i do?

  20. Martin says:

this proxy is probably not working, try another one.

  21. iti says:

it says episodes not available at this moment… ive tried allot of proxies

  22. demonik says:

how do i get this to work on a mac computeer

  23. Martin says:

I don´t know if there are proxy checkers for mac out there. You could try and use google to find proxies and test them manually using a site that reveals your ip, like http://www.whatismyproxy.com

  24. James says:

For a Mac just go to System Prefs > Network > ‘your connection e.g. Airport’ > Tick the Web Proxy and enter in the Web Proxy Server and Port from your source.

I looked here and the third one I tried worked a treat. Now to wait until it has aired… ;-) http://www.proxy4free.com/page1.html

  25. Someone says:

You can use the proxy to load the Flash viewer than cancel it for better
performance. The check is made just on the beginning.

  26. Funda_Mental says:

I am already behind a proxy in my office and I wanted to access the LOST
show and watch it after work.

If I paste any other IP, the connection to internet goes away. Do you
    have any suggestions?

Specs – PC with IE and Mozilla

  27. Funda_Mental says:

    Hi
    This is most helpful.

But I am behind a proxy at my office. The proxy connects to proxy server
and the ABC site checks the IP which is non-US based.
I would like to watch Lost after work hours. Any idea on how to do it then?

If I choose a US based proxy, my net connection goes away as I need the proxy to connect to the net.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  28. karan says:

hi, i clicked on check proxies and then scan search engines for new proxies and i also chose use external judge from the internet options when an error message came up, it shows at the bottom what it’s searching, but i waited for about 10 minutes but no proxies came up?? please help

  29. Karan says:

hi again, that problem’s solved now, but i have another 1, you know you wrote ‘Those are unverified, now select Check Proxies and Check Anonymity of all Proxies. This might take some time. If you only recieve bad and timeouts you have to change one option in charon’ that’s what’s happening to me, i’m only recieving bad ones, how do i solve this problem? you said you have to change one option, i don’t get it, please help, thanks

  30. Martin says:

Karan try using external judges and not internal ones, Select Connect Options and chose Use External Judge(s). that´s all.

  31. isabelishhh says:

it’s awsome now i will be able to watch lost , desperate housewives and alias

  32. isabelishhh says:

  33. catty says:

Use sopcast I view abc channel.

  34. Shawn says:

a good website to watch US streams from non-US IPs is http://www.proxy4free.info , you can find live US proxies on the front page.

  35. FoxyProxy firefox extension automatically switches your internet connection to use the proxy when a site is blocked–like ABC–but uses your (FAST) direct connection for everything else. No need to keep switching manually!

    http://foxyproxy.mozdev.org

  36. aldana says:

    el sitio sigue funcionando?
porque yo me registre y eso pero nose como hacer para ver los programas ni a que hora me tengo que conectar si es que los queiro ver en vivo …

    gracias

  37. monte says:

Hey I’m in south east Asia and I’ll do almost anything to be able to watch college football live. ABC seems to have a stronghold on this Does ABC offer college football coverage online? if so is there a way to get this in Asia? Thanx

  38. Christy says:

I’ve tried this with several anonymous US addresses, but I get an error message when I try to visit a site. Maybe I’m doing it wrong. I’m using Firefox and I change the IP address and port in the manual configuration box (under connections) to an anonymous address. Can someone tell me if there’s something more that needs to be done in Firefox? I would greatly appreciate any insight, as I’m living overseas and miss my ABC shows!!
    Thanks so much.

  39. Malad says:

hey, ive also tried everything to try to see these episodes. used all sorts of proxies and it did connect to abc player but then a message shows up: the episodes are temporaly unavaible. So, what can I do to watch it? Is there another way?

  40. Christy says:

Yeah, the same thing happened to me once I got a proxy that worked. Maybe they somehow caught on and are blocking all anonymous proxies or something. If anyone can figure out a solution, please post it here!

  41. frustrated says:

Same here. Can’t get any proxy to work.

  42. dragoon says:

I have the same problem. it seems it is the proxy which does not work (even if it is located in usa).I tried many proxys but I have never managed to see this damned episodes.IT IS HARD TO FIND A GOOD PROXY.

  43. harleydee says:

i get in to abc with an american proxy and onto the player but it ses no episodes availiable does any one no why?

  44. Christy says:

I think ABC has blocked all anonymous proxies or something. I get into ABC as well with a proxy and to other sites, but the player shows an error message when I try to play one.

  45. Malad says:

please, any suggestions as how we should proceed to watch the abc broadcast for non-usa users?

  46. Axl says:

    Any suggestions anyone? please!

  47. D says:

Im having the same problem so I’m guessing that there isnt a way around it as we are all having the same problem.
Looks like abc has stopped it from happening.

  48. draggon says:

the firt episode of the third season of lost is this evening. Nobody has a solution ? I can’t miss it…
well I think I’ll have to download it…

  49. draggon says:

The fisrt episode of lost is this evening
I can’t miss it. nobody has a solution?
Well i think I’ll have to download it.

  50. Martin says:

hm, did you try a working fast us proxy ? I will take a look into this matter

  51. Anonymous... who else? says:

    Hey guys, how you doin?
Well, now as I’m as anonymous as I want to be, I didn’t make it though to abc.com. Now, I though, there must be a reason, so I went to check that out on MTV’s Overdrive. You know, that’s that weird thing on mtv.com where you can stream a couple of live videos… as if MTV isn’t broadcasting it all day long anyways, but that don’t matter. So: It worked! I’m a desperate Englishman willig to do almost everything to watch LOST tonight, so holla if you got something. In my point of view, ABC has just gone mad and they don’t take anonymous IPs anymore, but anyhoo… I’ll try again, there has to be some way around. Bloody ABC beaurocrats.

  52. Lionslost says:

I was not able to pass de abc site i dont know what i´m doing really, only following the instructions, thing is that it says that the connection is taking to long for firefox could it be that i have a router??

  53. steve says:

    I used this site, http://www.yourprxy.com/

it allowed me to the site, but havin probs with javascript, can anyone else try it, and reply….
    tanx

  54. flight815 says:

I’m currently in China and I’m having the same problem with the error message on the site. “No episodes are available at this time” Well they better be soon, because I NEED to watch Lost, Damnit!!!

  55. Christy says:

Steve, the java script issue with with http://www.yourprxy.com isn’t on your browser – to allow sites accessed through yourprxy.com you have to click “more options” and uncheck the “remove client scripting” box. i was able to access abc’s player though yourprxy, the php10justproxy address (which you can select at the bottom of the page). but, when i tried to select an episode I got the same old “only viewers within the US” error. I even tried pasting the episode URL into yourprxy, but that didn’t work. Somehow even through yourprxy abc is still seeing who we are.

  56. tandy says:

propably there is no way, to watch lost etc. even with an anonymous proxy. abc has found some other way to determinate where you from.
    does somebody know another workaround?
maybe were doing something wrong, because i got these error messege ‘there are now episodes right now’.
    pls help soon!

  57. steven watched lost on abc from uk says:

  58. steven watched lost on abc from uk says:

any 1 wanting the link email my your thoughts on LOST first just 4 a laught at sgf@talktalk.net hehehehehe

  59. steve says:

You saw Lost? Can you post a link of ur proxy?
Ive tried every method, but to no avail, I flushed my ip, several times, manually…..
Ive also noticed that the same problem occurs with rapidshare premium, even cleaned out my system usin ccleaner,, I think this is sum kind of networking problem……..

  60. flight815 says:

It is ABC detecting the proxy, even after you launch the viewer. I got several different friends living in the states to check for me, and they can watch the episodes just fine. This is so stupid. I’m D/L the ep now and it’s taking forever, with little progress, and another 5 hours to go. Although, it’s told me “another 5 hours” since I started downloading 8 hours ago. All this trouble to watch 42 minutes of Lost. It better be a damn good episode…

  61. steven watched lost on abc from uk says:

lol it is very good bear with right here goes i did not do wot the guy said at top off the page i not tryed that yet might do but i will get this out first i have a link that u can watch live abc this link has not got the ability 2 watch back the programme like on the abc.com webpage but u can watch it live at 5am wed night/thur morn pict quality v good sound a bit jumpy for first 10 min after that is ok hope u enjoy comments back would b nice here goes http://www.viidoo.com/en/index.php

  62. Christy says:

Steven – thank you so much for the link! The picture and sound is great quality, albeit on a tiny screen. Now I can have my desparate housewives!

  63. Charly says:

where can you download the new episode Please Help

  64. steve says:

    theres a few ere Charly…..

    http://www.torrentspy.com/

  65. Charly says:

How do these torrents work i don’t understand please Help!

  66. steve says:

Google azureuz, and download the programme… Theres other on the market, but this is the safest and most reliable….

  67. flight815 says:

Steven, dude, THANK YOU! You just saved me so much grief.

  68. Greg says:

Hello all — I found hundreds of proxies using Charon, but only a handful were anonymous and none of the anonymous ones were in the USA. I also tried yourproxy.com, which got me into the web site without the “you must be in the USA” message, but I got the same javascript issue Steve did. Christy’s comment was helpful, but I have no idea where this “remove client scripting” check box is — it’s certainly not in the Internet Options box on IE.

I also tried http://www.proxy4free.info, which listed several anonymous US proxies, none of which worked to get to any website.

I finally took Steve’s advice and went to torrentspy.com and found multiple files of season 3, episode 1 (as well many earlier episodes) available for download. It’s downloading now (takes about 3 hours) so hopefully it will work! What a lot of hassle to see an episode!

  69. MaryKay says:

This doesn’t work for me. Should it work for wireless connections?

    thanks

  70. Erin says:

I tried using Charon but when i scanned for new proxies no results came up. I also tried using other proxies from websites but none would work.

  71. Lionlost says:

Is there no other way to see the episodes first time they are aired???

  72. tandy says:

using a proxy doesn’t work anymore, because abc changed the mechanism

  73. Michael says:

Yes But everytime i always get Errror: Episodes are temporarily unavailable, Please try again at another time. what does that mean. can you do something about that? is it normal?SOme one help Please

  74. michael says:

I tryed lots of ip too

  75. jake says:

I have the same problem, can someone help. does anyone else have this problem

  76. Hailey says:

Help, i’m getting the error message “Episodes are temporarily unavailable”. What can I do to fix it?

  77. Michael says:

    They must have gotten smarter

  78. Brett says:

    Any luck with CBS?

  79. Stef says:

Its very annoying – someone must know how to make it work. I also watched the last series online from the UK behind a US proxy. The first two of Season 3 are now on YouTube. Am trying to watch episode 3 which I can’t find anywhere – yet!

  80. John says:

how do u watch abc things on sopcast

  81. Sue says:

hey, did anyone find an answer to the ip problem? every time i try to lock into the full lengh episodes with an us proxy it tells me that you have to live in the states to watch these shows. please help me… i so wanna watch the shows…

  82. Carol says:

i have a mac and nothing is working. can anyone help? i just want to watch my shows!

  83. no1 says:

yeah the proxy stuff dont work anymore. I mean, u can still go behind a proxy and go to random site on the net and that site will report that your new IP is whatever your proxy changed it to. the proxy itself is fine and still works in firefox/IE.

the problem is the websites have found another way to detect where you live, so the proxy stuff doesnt cut it anymore. Ive been trying to watch some shows off MTV but even behind a proxy on both firefox/IE it still says I dont live in the US.

now i dunno how the websited done it, damn persistant bastards, but they can still figure out where you’re connecting from. now there should still be a way to get the video streams working, but im guessing it would require much more elaborate hacking then a simple proxy trick

  84. John says:

well, i have looked for too long and found one site that will work and is working with not only ABC but NBC CBS and the lot.

    http://www.VpnAccounts.com

Most vpn sellers out there have not been able to make it work. I have tried several, all were friendly yet was unable to use their services. I kept getting the message that it is not available at my location.

Vpn Accounts & Services have a special VPN for watching TV. Regular VPN accounts will not work hence the price they charge… last i checked 24 usd

    Watch US TV Online

  85. Al says:

The CBS (cbs.com) site still works with proxies, I just used it tonight. However, when I try Heroes on NBC or any ABC programme it seems not to work. Any ideas?

  86. Martin says:

I used the VPN site above and it worked just fine, although it was not free.

I am fairly positive you will not be finding a free solution.

  87. james says:

using the VPN site stated above, how long did it take [those that used it] to recieve the email from the website?

    cheers.

  88. Manuel says:

    YEAH PEOPLE IT WORKS!
Just download and execute the programme http://anchorfree.com/downloads/hotspot-shield/
Its great!!! But temporarely the shows are unavailable at the moment! But when they are back on – this programme will do it – it rocks!!!

  89. Nora says:

    An addition to Manuel’s writing:

Yes, HotSpot Shield works fine, but if you’re in a different time zone than US, for example in Europe, you must switch your Time Zone settings in Windows to US time. If you don’t, ABC’s site always tells you that the episode’s not currently available and doesn’t begin loading it!

  90. Michael says:

That sounds great! but is there a better vpn site? Thats free? i used hotspot shield but it deleted my text in my start menu. I had to restart and uninstall! SO is there a better program?

  91. michael says:

What about openvpn? does that work?

  92. Paul says:

Great – I have just seen Nora’s post on changing the time zone settings in Windows, and had previously been frustrated by the ‘not currently available’ error message. Now with hotspot shield it works fine here in Europe, and you can easily dispose of the banner ads which do not return!
    Thanks for the info.

  93. Kristina says:

I used hotspot shield for ABC and it works great! However I tried NBC and it still doesn’t work. Any way past NBC? I live in Italy cause I’m military and I think its unfair I can’t watch shows I know and love cause I’m in a foreign country.

  94. Annebeth says:

    Hi everyone
I just downloaded Hotspot, but I can’t watch the episodes on ABC. It still says that only us viewers can watch the episodes.

What is it that I’m doing wrong?

    (I live in the Netherlands)

The shield is green, though it says:
    State: Waiting for server
    VPN IP Address: Not Set
    VPN Server Address:
    Bytes In/Out: 0/910
    Connected Since: donderdag 31 januari 2008 7:18:38

  95. Jessica says:

    Hi Annebeth,
you have to set your system time to US time first. Make sure your webbrowser and Hotspot is closed. Then open hotspot and connect. At “connected since” it must show US time otherwise it wont work. If that worked try open the abc site again. Good luck!

  96. Tony says:

    Hi everyone
I’ve change the system time to US (-5) but when I start Hotspot it won’t to connect. I live in France.

  97. Currently I live in Thailand and I was blocked as well, but switched to a OpenVPN solution. My provider ( http://www.strongvpn.com ) is a monthly fee but at least there are no bandwidth charges at it’s 24 hour support. I got a IpodTouch and they were right there to help me set it up.

I don’t mind paying for the service since I use my IpodTouch in airports, would not want to do that without a VPN provider.

Get off the proxies! I know my friend used one and it caused a nasty back end virus.

  98. Jimmy says:

I definetly agree with Michael, Strong VPN is great and you can look into other providers such as:

    http://www.bananavpn.com
    http://www.vpnaccounts.com

****Don’t go surfing on an open wireles network .. EVER. Unless you encrypt the connection with a VPN****

  99. Bogdan says:

    it doesn’t work for me

  100. FyRe says:

I have used Charon, and I have used many programs coupled with many proxies. Make sure you are selecting to use the external judges, and then testing the judges, as well as using ONLY the good ones. Then, when you scan for the proxies, give it like twenty minutes. Use one with SSL that is in the US, with the lowest ping time. As of current, I am using 128.119.247.210:3128 . This one enables CBS, and VH1, but confuses me for MTV.com and NBC.com, as I get through on the site, but no video loads at all. Flash is not detected through the proxy, as it does not enable taking information from your computer.

  101. brdnfrd says:

    Slingbox works great!

  102. Chris says:

Yeah it’s easier to use the time hack by changing the time to a US timezone than going through a proxy. Hopefully that works for most. I’m a soldier in Iraq and it does for me.

  103. Fernseher says:

    Thanks so much to:
    Manuel, January 21st, 2008
    Nora, January 23rd, 2008
Absolutely amazing! So easy! The best non-geeky way I have found….
(und Dank natuerlich auch an Martin/ghacks natürlich das posting und die Seite im allgemeinen. )

  104. TSCC says:

    Hello

For a few time it works for me with HotSpot Shield an the time change. But now the Fox player shows the merchandise and then it doesnt stop loading the episode.
Doesn’t HotSpot Shield work any more?

  105. Kristina says:

I’ve been having the same problem. I wasn’t sure if it was hotspot or an issue with the flashplayer. Anyone know? or anyone else having the same problem? I’ll load up an episode, it’ll play the very first commercial and then it’ll go into the “loading” and nothing happens, blank screen.

  106. Alex says:

I have the same problem TSCC has, the episode does not stop loading. Can anyone help?

  107. Megatron says:

I have the same problem as alex kristina and TSCC

  108. stephe says:

Try running hotspot to access the video and when “loading” appears turn off hotspot. Worked for me. Let me know if it works for you too.

  109. Alex says:

    @ Stephe
It worked for me too by turning off hotspot while the episode is loading…

    Thx

  110. Natasha says:

I’ve got the http://www.strongvpn.com account, and can say that it really helps. Nice guys in support team solved my problem…

  111. Pye says:

So, is it illegal or anything?

  112. †}^TN^{†P@nd3þSld says:

    OMFG…it works….good

  113. Marklon says:

I installed Hotspot Shield and changed the system time
but it does not work at any site. Its connected and green. I live in Austria. I have Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 installed. Can i run Hotspot with another security tool? I also tried to turning off Hotspot while loading the movie but then my firefox freezes.

  114. dini says:

I get this page when I open hotspot:

AnchorFree’s products and services can be supported by the sponsor you choose.
We hope you select a sponsor and appreciate them for making AnchorFree’s products and services free of charge. No personal information is required.

So i do and it reverts back to this – I hae disbaled my pop up

  115. Marklon says:

the same happen to me when i use internet explorer. When i use firefox, it works.

  116. dini says:

Holy mackeral it bloddy works! Thanks Mark. It’s not perfect I get an error saying episode not available but it still starts; i cant pause it and when an add appears I cant go back to the episode as I cant see any buttons. Weird.

  117. Marklon says:

my experiences with watching us channels from austria.

i use firefox! i get problems if i have my kaspersky internet security on. so i have do shut it down if i want to watch online. I have Win XP running.

    watch fox.com, Sci-Fi Channel and nbc.com:

    1) install hotspot shield (free).
    2) install and register (free) veoh tv.
    3) turn your system time to an us-time.
    4) start and connect to hotspot shield.
    5) start veoh TV
    6) select channels, browse to your favorite
channel and start watching. have fun. (cbs.com can be choosen but it does not work. maybe you get it)

    watch abc.com:

    1) set to us-time (if you changed it back)
    2) start hotspot shield.
    3) go to abc.com and try to start streaming a show. the streaming should start with an commercial. after that comm. shut down the hotspot shield and it should go on with the show. have fun.
(if i do not close hotspot after comm. the show does not start. its only loading without end.)

    watch cbs.com:

    1) system time set to us-time.
    2) start hotspot
    3) go to cbs.com and just watch. you dont have to do anything else. have fun.

hope it works at you too.

PS: dini, sometimes the episodes are realy not available but if you try it later it should be working again. the other problem i do not have.

  118. az2008 says:

hi tried everything from top to bottom of this page and im really anoyed that nothing has worked…im no on the hotspot thing and change the time on comp and on browser on EI and on firefox and ive done it so many times just to make sure and i get this after it plays around:
    State:
    Disconnected [bandwidth exceeded]
    VPN IP Address:
    Not Set
    VPN Server Address:
    Bytes In/Out:
    Connected Since:

And i got that from the 1st time i tried it whats wrong here? all options are changed believe me to us time zone on browser and comp clock….HELP PLEASE all i want to do is watch a free episode of mtv hellllp please thanks

  119. az2008 says:

    just please help

  120. dini says:

I never had a problem seeing abc etc I had a problem seeing the pause button etc. one the stream started. It seems to be ok now mustve been a memory problem.

I d/l veoh but it messes things up totally. If i try and open abc it hangs even before I get anything and as for playing anything in veoh well thats a non starter. I see loading and yes I do shutdown hotspot.

I can see cbs and just watched something on fox. Gonna try all US channels that stream soon – looks like they will all work.

  121. dini says:

az follow this in the exact order I do:
    Turn on hotspot
    Open firefox
    Open abc etc
    Open tv series
it will play an ad then says loading – as soon as it says loading close hotspot.

  122. Marklon says:

dini: if you use veoh tv, dont close the hotspot tool. that trick witch closing it is only for the abc site.

az2008: it seems your hotspot is not working. i unf. dont know why. maybe you can find another vpn software like that for free.

maybe on different systems you have to vary the methods a bit.

  123. anz2008 says:

Marklon, what do you mean different systems…im on xp is that what u mean? and what vpn do you do u recomend

    ??
    thanks

  124. dini says:

veoh is useless. Doesnt have abc on it and most programs dont work with or without hotspot. Only ons that do work are the 2 min or so clips. I’m getting that error again sometimes on abc now but it’s no biggie.

Az I think mark means get another program like hotspot – if you read further up there is one you can pay for. Perhaps someone else knows of a free one.

  143. Michael Stacher says:

As people above have mentioned, you will not be able to find a quality service for free. I guess that’s true for most things in life.

I am on a business trip to Egypt and just got a VPN account from Happy VPN. The address is http://www.happyvpn.net/watch-tv.php

I enjoyed that I was browsing for ways to watch USA tv shows, found happy VPN, ordered and received very quickly the account. I still had the pages I searched on open when they sent me the account and the instructions on how to make it work.(and it sure works nice!)

    So, highly recommended, tryit yourself:

  148. Alex says:

  150. Alexa says:

  153. Lynn says:

    Hi,

I’m having the same problem. Hotspot used to work fine for ABC. However, now, after the episode has loaded, I get the error message (episodes are temporarily unavailable…”).

    Can anybody help?

  154. cucopas says:

    Hi @ all Hotspot-Users,

I think the HotspotShield Problem is IP related, when you turn the program off, you are connected with your own IP again. And I can just guess that ABC made their flash-IP-Check-Script smarter, so it checks your IPs during the shows as well. Unfortunately I don’t know how to fix this, it’s annoying, but a payed VPN could be a solution..If anyone comes up with a solution, that would be great.

  155. Qatar girl says:

I’m in Qatar and I can’t make it work. Can anyone help? Thanks.

  156. Yvonne says:

I downloaded Charon and it didnt work and now I cant even get Charon to delete. I am trying to watch tv shows from the UK by using a proxy server but they do not appear to be working even though when I check my IP it shows the United States. Any suggestions??
I am having a problem I think because they are java.

  157. A says:

This is how I work around hotspot. First i reboot my pc so i have max power. Then connect hotspot an d open firefox. Go through the stages and get to the loading screen. wait until your tv show starts – and then after 30 seconds then switch off hotspot. If you dont teh show will hang.

OK now when the ads come on connect hotspot again – make sure its on before you click ok to carry on. When ad is finished click ok to carry on and again after 30 seconds or so sitch it off.

if you are getting cant find show blah blah whatever then it could be either you havent changed your time zone or memory (just reboot) abc soaks up your pc memory, unless your machine is super fast.

  158. You can use VPN to watch American TV

  159. Dave says:

Any updates on how to get this working? I having problems with it also.

  160. Paddy says:

This is a good idea that I never thought of. However when I click “Use a proxy server for your LAN” and enter a proxy address and port, my internet stops working altogether on IE. All i get for any site is the “This page cannot be displayed” as if I am not connected to the internet.

Do you know what my problem may be?

  161. Cheryl says:

Is anyone reading this able to get ANYTHING on HotSpot these days???

I HotSPot setting us up for a pay service???
Or will they now claim this was a “free trial?”

As soon as I tried NBC Hotspot stopped working.
I checked details on the Auth Failure and it says that I don’t have permission to access…
I think NBC and probavly ABC have updated their
    software.

When I tried to contact Hotspot via their online support, it also hung, could not send
    at all.

MACOSX it worked fine on SAfari-
downloaded firefox 3.0 – still no go.

  162. Cheryl says:

And Yahoo seems to have deleted all of the
answers people could have submitted with
this message on every related page…

    “This question has been deleted

There was a problem performing that action, please try again later.”

This kind of thing leads me to think that
Yahoo is getting too big for their britches.
Time has come for someone else to come along and offer a truly uncensored service.
    Wahoo? Gotmail?

  178. In order to see videos on official US sites from abroad you’ll need to use a proxy service.

Easiest way to do it is to google “anonymous proxy” for list of proxy IP addresses.

Choose any address then go to you browser settings ( Something like “Tools>Internet options>Connections>Lan Settings..>and check “Enable proxy” and enter the prioxy ip address you got earlier.

    That’s it ;)

Dude…..they block to non-US users because of the commercials. They have to be able to tell their sponsors that so many possible customers watched their adds. It still seems stupid to me, because having lived in 8 coutnries I know that they sell Tide detergent pretty much everywhere, etc….plus there are “amerikans” all over the world who go back home…..but please, it is understandable why a profit making company should want to block. I’m still getting around it though, as well as I can!

    – Your antivirus software is protecting you. Hackers use proxies, so antiviruses block them. Mine does the same. Free proxies can be detected by most large sites and antiviruses as being proxies, so they’re blocked. You need a paid elite proxy to go undetected.
