I found this new configuration entry at cybernetnews.com and I´am suprised how easy it was to implement and how big the impact was. Have you ever noticed that firefox seems to become slower and slower the longer you are working with it without closing it ? I happen to open lots of tabs when researching and minimize firefox regulary when writing in open office for example. It tends to slow down the system and up until now the only solution I could come up with was to exit firefox and restart the browser.
Now, this fix helps when you are facing the same problem. After adding a single configuration line firefox will only use 10 megabyte of ram when you minimize it. All you need to do is the following:
1. write about:config in your firefox address bar and hit enter.
2. right click and select new Boolean.
3. Paste config.trim_on_minimize in the field and hit enter again
4. Select True from the list.
5. Restart Firefox.
Thats all, pretty easy huh ?
