I´ve written a short article about google suppressing search results in some countries which did not seem to bother the public opinion in those countries and elsewhere. Recent news about google china censoring search results on the other hand seem to create more public discussion. Should western companies bow to countries like china that have a different view of freedom of opinion.
I´am not sure why it creates more discussion. I can´t see a big difference between the suppression of search results in countries like germany and france compared to the suppression in china. Maybe someone else could enlighten me about the difference that I´am not seeing here. Nevertheless blog.outer-court.com compared some searches done with google.com and google.cn and displayes those results as graphics next to each other for comparision.
Take a look if you are interested in censorship.

come on, there’s a big difference between countries that (for example) censor pages deemed a bit too sexual, and china, which censors pages of people expressing opposition to the government.
In other words, some countries censor stuff, but China censors even the discussion of what’s censored. I would like to think that the censored pages in France are censored because a large bulk of the population would prefer not to see certain material when casually browsing the web. In China pages are censored because the leadership does not want them seen, without allowing discussion.
