I have 100 Google mail invites left and would like to give them to my readers as a present. If you are looking for a Gmail account let me know and I invite you to it. All I need is your email address to send the invitation code.
Update: Google after years of running Google Mail as a beta service has finally removed the beta tag from the online email service. A Gmail invite is no longer needed to sign up for the web service. All that is needed is a Google account, which can be created at the same time the Gmail account is created.
To get a Gmail account, head over to the Google Accounts sign up page to create your Google account there.
Update: It is now necessary to enter a mobile phone number during the Google account sign up. This is relevant as it is only possible to sign up for a Gmail account after the mobile phone number has been verified by the user.
What does that mean? Once you have entered all the account information that Google asks you to enter during the account creation, you are taken to a second page where Google asks for a verification code. This verification code is send to the mobile phone number that you have entered during registration.
The core reason for this is to eliminate spam accounts that spammers and malicious users have created in the past using Google’s service.
The Google account username and password are then valid for all services, including the Google Mail service (Gmail).
