Pricelessware 2006 Freeware list

The guys from the alt.comp.freeware newsgroup vote each year on the years best freeware products and I thought it would be nice to give you a rough overview over this years categories and products. A lot of the chosen freeware products are widely known but I found some real gems in the list. Due to the fact that the list was compiled over a year some of the products are already outdated or ceased to exist, for instance the Kerio Firewall.

The list is divided into 13 categories like multimedia, security and web-design. All this categories are divided into subcategories. The security categorie is divided for example into Anti-Virus, Firewall, Anti-Spyware, Packet-Sniffer, Script Defense, Password Manager and Encryption Tools. Each subcategory contains an average of three freeware products, which means you have a good selection and can try and use the freeware that best suits your needs.

I suggest you take a look at their website pricelesswarehome.org and see for yourself it they have some products you did not know about. Absolute recommended

Update: The website is still up, the last top list however dates back to the year 2009. It is still worth a visit though as you find gems there that you may otherwise never have heard about. Sure, you also see popular programs like 7-Zip, AIMP2 or uTorrent on the list, but there are programs on it that you may not have heard about before.

This includes among others the word processor Atlantis Nova, the duplicate file detector Dup Detector or the email notifier Pop Peeper. All programs link directly to the developer website from where they can be downloaded. The majority of applications are still available on the Internet. Some however have been removed or turned into commercial programs. The majority though is still available.
