You probably already read it on other sites but here is a little trick to speed up your iPods loading times. All you have to do is to simply defragment it and it should be faster for you. This only works for iPods that have been in use for a certain time, a new iPod is not defragmented.
To defragment you can use the windows tool that does it or any other software that is able to. Right-click, then select properties from the menu. A new window opens, select Tools and select Defragmentation. Could be a little bit different for other windows operating systems, this is the way it is done in the Windows XP operating system. Make sure you keep your iPod connected during the operation. You should also make sure not to use it as it may interfere with the defragmentation.
Update: Defragmention has only an effect on storage that is not using Flash technology. This means that you cannot use this trick to speed up your iPhone for instance as it won’t benefit from it at all. Even worse, performance may deteriorate if you try to defragment the storage.
This trick works for all devices that use hard disks for storage. Please note that defragmentation may take a while depending on the overall size of the disk, the space left and the level of defragmentation.
