Google Maps Risk Game

Could not believe it when I first heard about it. Someone ported the board game Risk to Google maps. When you start the game you see a world map and some lines drawn that are the borders. They look exactly like the risk game layout.

There are no computer players for now, so its only really playable in hot seat mode, unless you have multiple personalities, then that might be the perfect game for you. Take a look at this astonishing Google maps game and tell me what you think of it.

Update: Risk on Google Maps has been removed from the author’s website. If you are looking for an excellent web version of Risk you should take a look at Warlight. You need an account to get started on the site, account registration is free and you can start playing once you have completed the sign up process.

The game offers six single player maps to get you started, and an incredible number of multiplayer options. You can play on the original Risk map, larger or smaller world maps, and more than a hundred additional maps from fantasy Mordor to the London subway system.

One of the greatest strengths of the online Risk version is the ability to customize nearly every aspect of the game. Apart from selecting the map, you can also configure bonus points distributions, bonus card availability and effects, fog of war, if it should be a team game, initial army distribution and a lot more.

You can password protect your games if you want to play with friends only. Warlight offers social features as well, from player ladders to adding friends to your account that you can invite more easily to play with.

Each turn consists of four steps:

• Trade in cards for bonus armies
• Place your armies on the map
• Movement phase
• Attack resolution

Attacks and movements are simultaneous or one after the other. This can be configured in the options as well.
