I found a page that hosts a file searching bookmarklet for the Google standard and advanced search page. Its compatible with Internet Explorer and Firefox, you simply drag the bookmarklet into your bookmark / favorites bar, to start it go to your favorite Google site and click on the bookmarklet. It then asks you to enter a filetype and in a second textfield a search term.
Once you have made your selection the information will be entered into the Google search page for you and Submit will be clicked for you.

Another promising site with a great collection of bookmarklets is Marklets. The site offers a huge collection of bookmarklets for all kinds of purposes.
File search recently has come under scrutiny though as search engines like Google began to remove results from file hosting and sharing sites such as Rapidshare from their index. If you search for Rapidshare files on Google you will end up with a few dozen results tops.
Most users therefor may want to use special websites that index files that are hosted publicly on the Internet instead of bookmarklets.
You can also visit this site that offers a bookmarklet to search the active site. You could use it to search your favorite file hosting site or download site right away without having to go to a search engine’s site first or using the internal search of the service.
Just bookmark the bookmarklets and execute them whenever you need to access them. Executing means clicking on them when you are on the site you want to use them one.
